What is Rotary?
Rotary International is an international service organisation whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional people in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to advance goodwill and peace around the world.
There are over 34,200 member clubs worldwide with 1,200,000 service minded men and women as members.
Kendal Rotary was formed in 1925 and is one of the largest in Cumbria and Lancashire. We meet weekly to enjoy each other's company and discuss ways to serve others. We have helped a remote village in Nepal and also catastrophe relief around the world.
We also sponsor young people on training courses, organise Kids Out for all the students at Sandgate School, technology, public speaking and young chef tournaments for secondary schools, and provide practical help like transport to social evening for sight impaired residents. These are just a few of the many projects we tackle.
We have planted thousands of crocuses in six sites around Kendal to mark Rotary's ambition to rid the world of polio.
